Despite being a well-established technology, Ethernet continues to evolve, with the technology developing from 100Mbit/s to 1Gbit/s and, most recently, to 10Gbit/s. Other developments have been Ethernet Over MPLS, EFM based subscriber access networks and the introduction of the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF).
